Dunkin’ Drop Game

Dunkin' Donuts Game

This morning I ran across the Dunkin’ Donuts Dunkin’ Drop Game. At first I was really worried that they had beaten me to my donut game, or at least created something with the same spirit. Fortunately, I was wrong.

The Dunkin’ Drop game is just another cheap clone of Ultrablock style games. They don’t even have donuts in the game, instead opting to use the colored logo/icon/tagline things that they use in their ads (America, Runs, On, Dunkin). I think that Dunkin’ Donuts is trying to distance themselves a little bit from the artery-clogging image of greasy donuts and instead convince people that they are a coffee shop. I suspect that one day soon the chain will change its name to just Dunkin’ (already hinted at in the use of that name in the tagline). But even considering that, how can a company that makes something as fun and delicious as donuts create an ad game and not put donuts in it.

To make matters worse, their game isn’t even very good. The sound effects are horrible, the pace is too slow, and do I see Helvetica in there? It totally lacks the pacing and intensity that makes Ultrablock fun. Without that, I’m just left clicking on logos.
